Altaporta: From Dreaming to Doing

Inspiration

Altaporta started from Gabby Beckford's challenge: "Help take my community from dreaming to doing."

Gabby's community is filled with dreamers, people who say "one day" they'll travel, "one day" they'll prioritize their joy. But too often, that day never comes. The gap is not a lack of desire; it's the overwhelming friction of planning, budgeting, and staying consistent when life gets busy. Altaporta was built to close that gap.

It is the flexible space where vague inspiration turns into a concrete path. We didn't just build a travel planner; we built an accountability partner that breaks big dreams into daily, manageable wins, proving that the distance between "dreaming" and "doing" is just a series of small, consistent steps.

Technical Details & Business Model

  • Infrastructure: The app utilizes Drizzle ORM for type-safe database interactions and is built to be scalable from day one.
  • Business Model: We operate on a freemium subscription model, managed by RevenueCat.
  • Altaporta Pro ($9.99/mo or $79.99/yr): Unlocks unlimited AI trip generation, advanced social features, and unlimited goals. The recurring model aligns our success with the user's long-term consistency.
  • Implementation: A production-ready RevenueCat integration manages Pro access transparently.

Freemium Strategy

  • Trip/Wish Limit: Users can create 1 Trip and 1 Wish for free to experience the value.
  • Paywall Trigger: Attempts to create additional items or delete/manage existing ones trigger the upgrade flow.
  • Tiered Content: Basic trip details are visible, but full AI itineraries require Pro access.

What It Does

Altaporta is a comprehensive lifestyle design engine. Here is the detailed workflow of how it takes a user from a spark of an idea to a fully realized experience:

1. Trips: Intelligent Planning

The journey begins with intention. Users can either input a specific dream ("A week in Tokyo") or let the AI inspire them via a structured quiz ("Surprise Me").

  • The AI Engine: We use advanced LLMs to generate a complete, day-by-day itinerary. This isn't just a list of places; it includes estimated costs for flights, accommodation, and daily spending, grounded in real-world data.
  • The "Thinking" Phase: While the plan generates, users watch a dynamic "Quiz Loading View" where the AI explains its thought process ("Analyzing flight routes...", "Finding local hidden gems..."), building anticipation instead of frustration.
  • The Output: A beautiful, visual itinerary that serves as the "North Star" for all subsequent actions.

2. Goals: The Financial Engine

A plan without a budget is just a wish. The Goal system is where the user commits to making the trip a reality.

  • Flexible Funding: Users can create two types of goals:
"Reach a Target": Perfect for the total trip cost (e.g., "Save $4,000 by June"). The app calculates the daily or weekly pace needed to hit this deadline.
"Build a Habit": Great for lifestyle changes (e.g., "Save $10 every day" or "Walk 10k steps").
  • Visual Progress: Each goal is represented by a progress ring. As users log activity (saving money or completing a habit), the ring fills, accompanied by satisfying haptic feedback and animations.

3. Wishes: The Vision Board

For dreams that aren't ready for a deadline, there are Wishes.

  • Capture & Curate: A visually rich card interface allows users to collect inspirations, a photo of the Amalfi Coast, a link to a cooking class, or a note about a festival.
  • Micro-Actions: A Wish isn't static. Users can attach "Tips" (small, actionable steps like "Read a blog post" or "Check passport expiration") to it.
  • Evolution: As tips are completed, a progress bar fills. When a Wish is "mature" enough, the app prompts the user to graduate it into a full-blown Goal with a deadline and budget.

4. Tasks: The Tactical Roadmap

While Goals handle the "What" and "How much," Tasks handle the "How."

  • Auto-Generation: When a Trip is created, the AI automatically populates a checklist of critical logistical steps tailored to the destination (e.g., "Apply for Japan Visa," "Buy JR Rail Pass," "Book Ghibli Museum tickets 3 months in advance").
  • Smart Management: Users can add custom tasks, set due dates, and organize them by priority. In a social context, tasks can be assigned to specific members of a Circle, ensuring accountability.

5. Social Circles: Community & Accountability

Dreams are harder to achieve in isolation. Circles turn individual journeys into shared missions.

  • Shared Economies: For group trips, users create a Circle where financial goals are pooled. Everyone can see the total progress (e.g., "We have 40% of our Airbnb fund"), but detailed individual contributions remain private.
  • Challenge Mode: For non-monetary goals (like "Get Fit for Hiking"), the Circle transforms into a Leaderboard. Participants compete on "Streak Days," pushing each other to stay consistent.
  • The Feed: A built-in activity feed updates in real-time, "Sarah just saved $50," "Mike completed a task," keeping the momentum alive and making the journey feel like a team sport.

6. The Daily Pulse: Focus & Momentum

To prevent overwhelm, the Daily Pulse dashboard aggregates everything a user needs to do today.

  • Action-Oriented: Instead of showing the entire daunting project, it shows only today's requirements: "Save $15 for Japan," "Complete 1 Task," "Check in to Fitness Circle."
  • Zero-Friction: Users can perform all these actions directly from the dashboard with a single tap, removing the friction of navigating through multiple screens.
  • Momentum: Clearing the Daily Pulse gives a sense of completion, reinforcing the habit of daily progress.
